What does it mean?
An architectural drawing set can consist of floor plans, facade views, cross-sections and details. The content and effect depend on the purpose of the set.
Agree whether the drawing is intended for consultation, a procedure, price determination or implementation. Check that structural components and installations correspond with the other documents.
What is recorded?
- Existing and new situation
- Sizing and gauging
- Facades and cross-sections
- Construction and relevant connections
Make the assignment concrete
Ask what documents you are receiving, what purpose they are for and what level of detail is provided. Agree on how additions and design changes will be processed and who will coordinate with other parties.
Work with the correct revision
Check that calculations and drawings refer to the same situation. Have important changes assessed first and provide all parties involved with the current documents.
How should drawings show an alteration?
Show existing and proposed arrangements separately and identify the elements to be removed. Dimensions, sections and levels should agree. Structural assessment becomes harder when only the proposed layout is available: the designer also needs to understand how existing floors and walls are supported.
