What does it mean?
A construction drawing indicates the load-bearing parts and their location in the building. Depending on the order, the set contains profiles, materials, supports and connection details.
Use the drawing together with the accompanying report. Check that both are based on the same design principles and revision. Suppliers may require additional working drawings.
What is recorded?
- Load-bearing walls, beams and columns
- Material and profile indications
- Supports and connections
- References to calculation and details
Make the assignment concrete
Ask what documents you are receiving, what purpose they are for and what level of detail is provided. Agree on how additions and design changes will be processed and who will coordinate with other parties.
Work with the correct revision
Check that calculations and drawings refer to the same situation. Have important changes assessed first and provide all parties involved with the current documents.
A beam on a plan is not an installation detail
A beam position shows where it goes, but not necessarily how it is connected. Check that the required bearings, column connections and detail references are included. Separately agree whether the steel supplier produces fabrication drawings and who checks them. This establishes which documents are needed before manufacture.
