Place, weight and mounting together form the design question.

Look beyond the total weight
An installation can do it load on a small number of points. The distance to load-bearing parts, the arrangement and the support are therefore important. Ask the supplier for weights and mounting details.
Adjust the connection
The supporting structure, vibration control and structural waterproofing have different points of attention. Make sure that the parties involved coordinate their connection details and that the final position is clearly stated on the drawing.
Weight is not the only input
The structural engineer needs the device weight, support points and location on the roof. In addition, ask what information is available about dynamic effects and confirmation. The installer works out installation selection and connections; the structural support must fit accordingly. Therefore, share product sheets and setup information, not just a sales photo. Indicate whether pipeline routes or new penetrations are also created.
Prevent clashes between different disciplines
A suitable location for pipe length or maintenance may be above a structurally unfavorable roof section. Conversely, a structurally suitable support position may have consequences for noise, drainage or accessibility. Compare the wishes of the installer, architectural designer and structural engineer. Have the coordinated arrangement and connections recorded before ordering support frames or penetrations.

Frequently asked questions on this topic
When do I have my existing flat roof assessed?
In the event of a planned change in weight, use or construction, a targeted assessment is useful. Consider extra insulation, installations, solar panels, a green roof or an opening. Describe the existing and desired structure and indicate known deformations.
Why do drainage and construction belong to the same consultation?
Water that accumulates on a roof can cause additional strain. Drainage and any emergency facilities must therefore be coordinated with the architectural and structural design. The suitable solution depends on the complete roof structure and geometry.
