Make your figures comparable
Use the same VAT basis throughout your budget. A quote excluding VAT and an amount including VAT need conversion to the same basis before comparison. Record whether each item is a received quote, your own estimate or an amount still to be confirmed.
Check what is outside the quoted scope, such as drawings, finishes or waste removal. Enter figures relevant to your own project. The contingency is a budget allowance you choose, not a guarantee that every unexpected cost will be covered.
