CBS — population (1 January 2025) · CBS — housing stock and dwelling types (2025) · CBS — officially registered settlements (1 January 2026)

Population figures are taken at municipal and provincial level. Municipal totals have been checked against provincial totals. Newly built homes are additions to the housing stock; they do not count how many existing homes have been renovated. Dwelling-type percentages are rounded CBS figures and may not add up to exactly 100%.

Which renovation figures are available?

CBS table 83667NED counts granted building permits by type of work for the Netherlands as a whole. The selection below covers the residential sector and other building work: repair, alteration and extension of existing buildings. The statistics include permits with a construction value of at least €50,000 excluding VAT. Work exempt from permits, smaller projects and actually completed renovations are not fully counted by this measure.

This table has no municipal or provincial dimension. We therefore do not distribute the national total among local areas or label it as a renovation count per village. A missing local figure is marked as unavailable; it is never displayed as zero.

How were the soil tables calculated?

The polygons of WUR Bodemkaart50000_v2025 were geometrically intersected with Kadaster/PDOK municipal boundaries. Areas were calculated in the Dutch RD coordinate system (EPSG:28992). Areas within each municipality were summed by map code. Percentages divide each area by the total area of the soil polygons present. Provincial figures sum the municipal intersections.

For compound soil codes, the table gives the first soil name from the source. This does not mean the whole unit consists exclusively of that soil type. The map describes soil to approximately 1.2 metres and is designed for regional use at a scale of 1:50,000. Built-up areas are not fully mapped. The figures therefore cannot serve as a bearing-capacity calculation or a ground investigation for an individual building plot.

What does a local profile mean?

The description combines settlement classification, the local housing profile and the soil map. Relevant building questions are editorial points to consider for that profile, not a measured ranking of popular renovations or evidence that a particular defect occurs locally. The website does not claim an unverified local office, completed project or municipal partnership.
