Design the application as a whole
A protection solution consists of more than just a plate or coating. The shape and use of the construction part, mountings and connections are part of the assessment.
Save the system data
Ask what product and system documentation accompanies the application. Check that processing and detailing are consistent with that documentation and record relevant parts before sealing.
Assess the complete protection
Fire resistant performance depends on the required situation and the system chosen. Cladding or coating is applied with associated conditions for surface, mounting, layer structure and connections. A product name alone is therefore not a complete specification. Let it be determined which performance is required and what effect it will have. Also coordinate penetrations, connecting building parts and possible damage during implementation.
Save product and implementation information
Ask what documentation belongs to the chosen system and how the implementation is recorded. Photos can help you find hidden connections later, but they do not replace the relevant product data and agreed checks. Record discrepancies and repairs before closing the finish. Make sure that the design, ordered products and completed construction are recognisably linked in the file.

Can I choose a steel beam based on the span alone?
No. Loads, support, lateral support, deformation and connections are also relevant. Two openings of the same width may therefore require different solutions. Do not use a general beam table as an ordering specification for an unknown existing structure.
Is another steel profile with the same height interchangeable?
Not automatically. Profile shape, dimensions, steel type and connections influence the behavior. Have a proposed alternative assessed before ordering. Also ask whether connection details, plates and required protection need to be adjusted.
