Follow the structure from roof to foundations
When altering a building in Limburg, assessing a new beam or column is part of reviewing the entire structural system. Loads must pass through existing floors and walls to the foundations. Look beyond the opening or extension on your sketch and include drawings of the storeys above and below. Municipal figures and the soil map provide local context; dimensions, material strength and ground conditions at the building address need individual assessment.

Soil and ground types
Within the boundaries of Limburg, map unit Hn21 covers the largest measured area of soil polygons in this analysis: 15,231 hectares, or 7.8% of the mapped area.
Original Dutch source name:
Veldpodzolgronden; leemarm en zwak lemig fijn zand
| Map code | Dutch soil classification: first unit | Area (ha) | Share of mapped area |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hn21 | Veldpodzolgronden; leemarm en zwak lemig fijn zand | 15,231 | 7.8% |
| zEZ23 | Hoge zwarte enkeerdgronden; lemig fijn zand | 13,866 | 7.1% |
| Hn23 | Veldpodzolgronden; lemig fijn zand | 11,502 | 5.9% |
| BLd6 | Radebrikgronden; siltige leem | 10,235 | 5.3% |
| BLb6 | Bergbrikgronden; siltige leem | 9,570 | 4.9% |
| Other units | Other mapped soil polygons | 133,695 | 68.9% |
The shares are calculated within the soil polygons on the map, not across all land or all building addresses. For compound map codes, the name of the first unit is shown. The map describes shallow soil; built-up areas are not fully mapped. It does not establish bearing capacity or determine whether piles, pad footings or strip foundations should be used.

How much renovation takes place?
The CBS tables used here do not provide a complete local renovation count for Limburg. We therefore do not estimate this from population, new homes or a national percentage. These sources also do not establish which type of renovation is most common.
